Phew!
Today marks the end of my first semester in college! In celeberation (with still a half hour left until the new day begins!), I painted this (started a few days ago, of course, in the midst of finals, at that!), putting forth all of my efforts, and much of what I've learned since I've begun taking art classes here at PCC.
Started from a spark of ambition. I knew that my last 'finished' painting had started as something aimed toward a mattepainting, but i digressed and just painted it fully. Much of the perspective was wrong, and it came out just HORRIBLE.
So, i wanted to reclaim myself with this piece. The perspective on the clouds is a bit more on, but one thing is wrong; its such a wide shot, that it should have some different curves, etc, for almost panoramic shots. But, what the heck!
Remarks:
I was hoping that I would gain a bit of... pleasure, or at least, satisfaction from this, as I had planned it to be my best work yet. However, even if it may be my best work, I am certainly not satisfied. There are minute errors which are annoying me, etc.
Anyhow, it started with the foreground rock surface below. I pulled it into photoshop, and did a few sketches over it. One thing led to another, blobs of color became shapes, and soon, i got lucky with the clouds! hah. I had a long look at references this time before I started. Printed out many references, and observed the lighting, colors, and cloud formations before starting on this one. The ground is just guess-work. :-P
Credit goes to Carl Heiman for putting the image up for use on his website for use! I believe it's carlheiman.com .
Further ambitions:
since I lost my last animation file on the landscape mattepainting i did a while back, I plan to animate this one. The terrain is much more rocky, ridgy, and difficult, but Im sure I can manage it. I'll keep it all up to date!
I think that''s bloody awesome. I'm very sorry, but I don't have any critique. Ahh, perhaps I would like to see a larger version so I can enjoy the details a bit more
